Nearly twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland were left experiencing outages on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms swept through the region, bringing powerful gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Impact

Locals witnessed large ice chunks reaching sizes of 7cm in some areas. Meteorological experts confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with significant hail.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing power throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units deployed to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

Simultaneously, approximately one thousand residents in the southern state also experienced energy failures after Melbourne recorded its wettest day in 18 months.

Emergency response teams responded to over five hundred emergency reports across the state, mainly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along large portions of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

The following day was predicted as the most rainy day, with persistent storm activity predicted across multiple regions of both regions.

Health Warning

Health officials cautioned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.
